SAMOAcontemporary
A diverse and exciting exhibition of 17 contemporary New Zealand Samoan Artists working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, drawings, DVD and light-works. Artists include Edith Amituanai, Fatu Feu'u, Graham Fletcher, Niki Hastings-McFall, Lonnie Hutchison, John Ioane, Anita Jacobsen, Shigeyuki Kihara, Lily Aitua Laita, Nanette Lela'ulu, Andy Leleisi'uao, Nestor Opetaia, Genevieve Leitu Pini, Greg Semu, Siliga David Setoga, Lorene Taurerewa, Michael Tuffrey. A touring exhibition from Pataka Museum, Porirua. 28th June to 24th August, 2008

This exhibition includes contemporary work in a variety of media from the Sarjeant Gallery's permanent collection, as well as some exciting loaned material. Artists included are Ralph Hotere, Gordon Walters, Carl Sydow, Joanna Margaret Paul, Don Driver, Peter Black, Rodney Fumpston, Bill Culbert and Gavin Hipkins. 15th March - 15th June, 2008


martin poppelwell ceramic works 1993-2007: serviette
An exhibition of ceramic work by Napier based artist Martin Poppelwell. Making use of text and popular imagery, Poppelwell turns preconceived notions of ceramics on their head with a variety of challenging and quirky works. A touring exhibition from the Suter Gallery, Nelson. 10th May to 22nd June, 2008

matthew couper: the museum of inherent vice

Sculptor Joanna Langford has been artist-in-residence at Tylee Cottage for the last six months. Down from the Nightlands is an impressive dome installation featuring spindly towers with lights, flights of stairs and a swirtl of plastic clouds high in the dome. hot property: an exhibition celebrating 20 years of glass practice in wanganui
The Sarjeant Gallery is pleased to host Hot Property in association with the 2007 Festival of Glass. This exhibition, featuring twenty-one artists, is a true reflection of the diversity of this dynamic medium. September 15 to October 14, 2007


2007 carey smith & co. ltd - chartered accountants whanganui arts review

A touring exhibition celebrating the legacy of a lifetime's work created by Ans Westra, New Zealand 's foremost documentary photographer. Organised, co-curated and toured by Luit Bieringa, Director of BWX, the exhibition explores the many events and rituals of Maori and Pakeha life as recorded since the late 1950s.

Johanna Pegler: Biophilia (28 Oct to 4 Feb '07)
Biophilia, meaning a love of nature, is an exhibition of landscape paintings by Johanna Pegler from the mid-1990s. Her subject matter is the environs of both Wanganui and her previous home of Coromandel.

BIRDS: The Art of New Zealand Birdlife (21 Oct - 11 Feb '07)
This enchanting exhibition offers a sense of the species' fragility whilst flaunting their charm. BIRDS comes to us from Pataka, curated by Helen Kedgley.

Commodity & Delight: Views of Home (March '06)

A new body of work by Wanganui photographer Leigh Mitchell-Anyon inspired by a recent fascination with snow domes. The snow domes in this exhibition encapsulate four calamities that are so familiar to us all and juxtapose them with the cinematic dreams that came before them - did we dream them into reality?
