Hi, my name is Sietske Jansma. As the Sarjeant Gallery's Education Officer, I provide a variety of FREE educational services to both Primary and Secondary schools in the Whanganui region. These programmes are funded by the Ministry of Educations' Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom initiative (LEOTC).
Teachers, have you ever wanted to provide more Art learning experiences for your students? Bring them to the place where Art comes Alive! At the Sarjeant Gallery students are encouraged to interact with the artwork, participate in practical workshops, and meet 'live' artists. |
The Gallery is not just for art and art history classes - curriculum links can be made to Social Studies, English, Technology, Math and History. We encourage school groups to visit both the Sarjeant Gallery and the Whanganui Regional Museum for a maximised educational experience. Programmes can be integrated for a visit to both providers.
Education programmes at the Sarjeant Gallery fall into three categories;
- Those based on the changing shows in the Gallery.
- Those based on artwork in our own collection of 5000 pieces.
- Those based on teachers requests for specific topics.
