who can use the education programmes?
Any New Zealand state or private school can come and visit the Sarjeant Gallery and book an educational session for their students with the education officer.

All sessions are FREE!

planning your visit:
All you need to do is contact education officer Sietske Jansma either by email or phone 06) 349 0506 to make a booking and discuss what type of programme you would like.
We recommend you book in advance to insure that you get the day and time that you want.

there are three types of programmes available:
1. A session based on changing exhibitions at the Gallery.

These programmes run in conjunction with the exhibitions and often include a practical workshop.
Resource kits are available for these sessions.

2. A session based on artworks from the collection of more than 5000 items. These programmes make use of works from the Sarjeant Gallery 's permanent collection and can include a practical workshop.
Resource kits are available for these sessions. (Please book at least 2 weeks in advance if you wish to view collection works)

3. A session based on teacher requests.
These sessions often include artworks from the permanent collection (please book at least 2 weeks in advance if you wish to view collection works).
Requests from teachers in the past have been: Night and Day, New Zealand Flora and Fauna, Observational Drawing, Landscape painting and Animals.
Resource kits are available for these sessions.

NCEA programmes:
The Sarjeant Gallery has a large and diverse collection of New Zealand Art, making it an invaluable resource for students studying NCEA.
To suit your students the education officer can access the majority of artworks in the collection and display them so that you students can use them for their studies, you will need to book at least 2 weeks notice for these bookings.

Sessions for NCEA can consist of the education officer informing students about the Artist(s) and their work(s), or the teacher that has made the booking can use the artwork to teach from, or students can use the works to make their own observations/notes while viewing the art works.
