James Robinson
July - December 2008
Dunedin-based painter James Robinson is our current artist-in-residence from July to December this year. At the 2007 James Wallace Art Awards, James was the recipient of the Paramount Award, which included a six-month residency in New York, James has also completed a residency at the McCahon House in Titirangi, Auckland. In 2004, Dunedin-based writer Peter Entwistle said of James' painting: "His work deals with traumatised and heightened emotion, often through abstraction, using varied and refined skills to produce surfaces often coagulated, written-over, cruelly slashed and painfully repaired, but also delicate and poignant." We look forward to seeing what James produces whilst he is in residence at Tylee Cottage. His residency will be marked by an exhibition at the Sarjeant in early 2009. 2005)
