Interior Worlds

12 August – 19 November 2017

Wayne Barrar, Pip Culbert, Lynn Hurst, Julia Morison, Anne Noble, Peter Trevelyan

This exhibition brings together the work of six very different artists whose practice explores the idea of ‘interior worlds’, investigating the microscopic, overlooked, unseen and imagined. Their inspiration is drawn from transient objects they encounter – a childhood garment; forgotten books transformed into treasure boxes; the flimsy skeleton of a life-saving parachute; an imagined shape, pattern or line that evolves into a series of paintings that hum to each other. Or, in the case of two of the artists, ongoing photographic studies – for one, the beautiful detail of microfossils and the other, the secret life of bees.

With our ever-expanding universe of virtual worlds where everything seems to be accessible at the click of a button, the six artists here remind us that although there are interior worlds close to home, they are often hidden beneath the surface waiting to be explored.
